Large Scale Assessments are designed to provide evidence at the macro level, either at the district, national or in the region. The Pacific Islands Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (PILNA) is an example of a large scale assessment. The multi-country assessment aims to measure Year 4 and Year 6 students’ comprehension and application of foundational literacy and numeracy skills. Large scale assessments are mostly conducted to help systems in their diagnostics to improve the quality of education.
